June 20th - The run is getting better

Today was another good training day.  I am swimming pretty well, but I still feel a little bit slow.  I will increase my distance next week and hopefully try to get out in the open water to build a little confidence.  I did another 2400 yards today in a little under an hour.  I would like to get that time down a few more minutes if possible to make sure that I give myself a good cushion for the swim and the rest of the day.

I had my weekly PT appointment today as well.  We are starting to work on lateral movements and building strength for side to side motion.  My knee has been feeling really good lately so that is very encouraging.

The run workout I did on the treadmill this week felt really good and I tried out the new run/walk ratio of 4 minutes to 3 minutes there.  Today I tried that ratio out on the road.  I was hoping that I could use a second watch to help me time the intervals but that didn't work so well so I spent a lot of time looking at my watch and doing some math on the run.  At least that will keep me distracted during the marathon.  Today's run went very well and in 90 minutes I covered 8.5 miles.  That worked out to a pace of about 10:30 per mile and if I can keep that pace during the race I will be impressed.  After 112 miles on the bike I would expect it to be a bit slower, especially toward the end.

Tomorrow is a complete rest day that we will be spending by the pool.  I have to say, I am really liking having summers off!
