Today I received the 2013 Ironman Lake Placid Athlete Guide in my email. It's really starting to feel real and like this is actually going to happen. I have to say I'm getting a little nervous, but I know that my training is going well and I feel good.
Because of my training load yesterday, which was a pretty tough ride and a hot run, I decided to cut out one of my workouts today because my knee was bothering me. I had a better than usual swim this morning. I decided to start swimming in my tri shorts, rather than the usual swimming trunks I was wearing. This should be a closer representation of the the wetsuit that I will be wearing during the event. I also decided to do part of my swim with a pull buoy. This also mimics what it will be like to wear my suit because the suit offers a good level of extra buoyancy in the water. With those changes I saw my swim times per 100 yards decrease a bit and built my confidence for a decent swim time.
Since my knee was bothering me I decided to cut out my scheduled run. It's important that I listen to what my knee is telling me rather than complete workouts just to complete them. As I put together the rest of my plan I will rethink how often I schedule my run workouts and will also add a 2nd rest day.
Tomorrow is a complete rest day so that will allow my knee to rest for an extra day before a tough weekend of workouts.
