May 13th - I'm Back

We had a great weekend camping on West Point Lake with a bunch of friends and I was able to maintain most of my training plan.  My eating plan however, was not so lucky.  Friday was an off day but I still managed to get in my PT exercises.  On Saturday Kelly and I went on a 20 mile bike ride that took us to the dam on West Point which for some reason is swarming with mayflies this time of year.  It was pretty cool to see the dam up close though.  When we returned from there we ventured out for the first open water swim of the season.  Wet suits were definitely required and some of our neighboring campers had a good time watching us get in and out of our suits.  We swam about a mile in the lake.  It took me a minute to get comfortable in the water again and I'm not too sure about my new breathing pattern in the open water.  I'll have to experiment some more with it as Lake Placid gets closer.

I did manage to do most of my PT exercises while we were camping.  It was a little cramped in the camper and there was no way for me to do my wall sits or resistance ball bridges, so I substituted some of the new squats that I would normally do with my leg strength work.

Sunday was a walk day, so I checked out the hiking trail in the park where we stayed.  The trail was pretty extensive and I only walked out about a mile or so.  In all my walk was 3.5 miles in 45 minutes.  It was different walking on uneven terrain and I can definitely feel it in my knee today.  Some of the cramping has come back and it was pretty sore all day today.

I swam 1800 yards this morning and it was a struggle to keep going.  I ended up with a headache and I think its because I need to eat a little bit more before my workout.  My PT session today was with a different therapist named Tina.  Karyn had to pick up her kids so rather than reschedule I just worked with Tina.  We have started some new moves that work on balance on unstable surfaces and on strengthening my glutes for running.  I am very sore tonight and that is after she did some soft tissue work icing.  I also was able to get some core work in before I nearly died of hunger.

Tomorrow will be another swim and a ride after grade repair.  I may also try to get in a walk during planning.

Today's workout:

Core - 12x25
I didn't weigh in this weekend and quite frankly I don't want to after a weekend of camp feasting.  I'll weigh in again this coming Saturday.
